- Rhythia is a desert city on the edge of a vast delta. The high white stone walls and golden topped spires shine brightly in the desert sun. A large and ancient city, Rhythia has seen empires rise and fall around it, the Sultan and his royal family lives with the unhindered wealth of millennia, and tales of Rhythia’s splendor has filled countless people with awe and wonder.
Once a visitor enters the fabled metropolis however, that individual learns quickly that the storytellers fail to mention the stark reality of the place. For centuries, the city has struggled in strife and conflict within its pristine walls. Clans, cults, families, affiliations, religions, and sorcerers have battled each other over endless feuds and disagreances. The streets are a hotbed of theft, violence, and deception. It is only a small handful of individuals out of the tens of thousands of citizens that actually have real wealth; the rest live in bitter squalor.
- It is here in Rhythia that the first Assassins were born.
- Nearly half of Rhythia’s inhabitant’s are slaves. There are small groups of anti-slave organizations but the flesh market is otherwise an accepted part of society. Most slaves are simply happy to be fed and clothed, as opposed to what they would be on the grimy streets.
- The city has been the center of conflict between two major temples for almost 400 years. One is that of the goddess Jihan, a daughter of the sun-god Pelor. The other is of Zehir, the god of assassins, poison, and darkness.
